Stress, We're Not Gonna Take It

Nov 04, 2019

I grew up in the 80s and there was a popular song out called We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister.  Now, no need to write me letters because I’m not saying that I love the band or their meaning behind this song.  The song, however, has been featured in movies, TV shows, and commercials repeatedly. Dee Snider, the writer of the song, says he’s happy if the song is used, “any time that the team is down by two, or somebody had a bad day at the office, they're gonna stand up and sing We're Not Gonna Take It.”

Now, I know you’re probably thinking, where are you going with this Donna?  This doesn’t seem like your usual Christian blog subject. I mean, Twisted Sister???

The body of Christ today is standing up in greater and greater numbers to say, “We’re not gonna take it anymore.”  We’re tired of being stressed out, beaten up by life, feeling defeated at every turn. We’re not going to just sit here and take it.  We aren’t going to put our hope in an escape through the rapture. We’re not going to lie down and let Satan and his cohorts rule and reign over us anymore.

Read some of the lyrics to the song below from a Christian perspective:

Oh, we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh, we're not gonna take it anymore

We've got the right to choose it
There ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song

We'll fight the powers that be, just
Don't pick our destiny 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong

We're right (yeah)
We're free (yeah)
We'll fight (yeah)
You'll see (yeah)

Isn’t this what the Bible tells us?

We’ve got the right to choose life, blessing, victory, rest:
I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.  Deuteronomy 30:19 AMPC

There’s no way we’ll lose when we stand up and say we’re not going to take it:
But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere.  2 Corinthians 2:14 AMPC

This is our life, this is our song:
He taught me how to sing the latest God-song, a praise-song to our God. More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery, abandoning themselves to God. Psalm 40:3 MSG

We’ll fight the powers that be:
Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage. Ephesians 6:12 TPT

Satan doesn’t get to pick our destiny, we do:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. Proverbs 18:21 AMPC

Maybe this is why Snider said some of his inspiration for the song came from “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful”!

Satan has held us in bondage way too long.   Not just the world but Christians also. Jesus came and set us free but too many of us don’t know it or aren’t taking our stand to say, “We’re not going to take it anymore!” “

Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought and make of no effect him who had the power of death—that is, the devil— And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives
.” Hebrews 2:14-15 AMPC

There are millions of people in the world today who are held hostage by the devil in their mind.  Their stress, worry and fear is a spiritual tactic of the enemy to keep them in bondage. Stress is rooted in fear and every fear is rooted in death.  But you have been delivered and completely set free!

1 John 3:8b AMPC says “The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].”  Do you think Jesus accomplished what He was sent here to do? If so, consider this done. Jesus has untied you and loosened you from the binding power of Satan.  The only power Satan now has over you is what you allow him to have.

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be alert and on your guard; stand firm in your faith (your conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, keeping the trust and holy fervor born of faith and a part of it). Act like men and be courageous; grow in strength!”

In other words, get up and say, “I’m not gonna take it anymore! Stress, you no longer will rule in my life. I untie your cords that have bound me to depression and anxiety. I’m free! Thank you Jesus!”
