Join the Victory Parade

Dec 03, 2019

Your view of stress-busting must begin with the basic foundational truth that Jesus already defeated the devil’s power in your life at the cross. The battle was won and the victory was complete. There is nothing more you can add to what Jesus accomplished on the cross.

In Colossians 2:15 we are given a vivid picture of what actually happened.

“[God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against
us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing
over them in Him and in it [the cross].” AMPC

“And then having drawn the sting of all the powers ranged against us,
he exposed them, shattered, empty and defeated, in his final
glorious triumphant act!” Phillips

“He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority
at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” MSG

The Greek word used for “spoiled” the enemy used in other translations is shown here as disarmed and stripped. It refers to “the act of stripping one’s garments off to the point of complete nakedness.” Hell was plundered. Jesus left Satan with no authority, no power, and no weapons to overcome us with.

Jesus didn’t silently escape from hell and rush back to the safety of His Father. No, Jesus rubbed Satan’s defeat in his face. He displayed or exposed Satan’s and the other principalities’ and powers’ defeat openly in the spiritual realm. The word “openly” means with boldness or confidence. Jesus threw a victory party!

In fact, the party has never ended. We get to be a part of the party too.

“In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance.” 2 Cor 2:14 MSG

“But we thank God for giving us the victory as conquerors through
our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One.”
1 Corinthians 15:57 TPT

And as I like to remind you often, these verses are either true or they aren’t. As believers, we believe God’s word and it says we can always have victory and triumph.

If you don’t start your stress-busting with this truth in mind, you can get way off track on what It takes to have freedom in your life. You need to start with this truth that Jesus has ALREADY freed you. He has stripped your captor of all power and authority over you. You bust through stress from a position of victory, not as a way to attain victory.

When Jesus defeated the devil, He then basically said to us, “My victory is your victory. My authority over Satan is your authority.” That would be absolutely true if we are one with Jesus, if we are in Jesus and if we are part of Jesus' body. Satan is now under Jesus’ feet and because you are in the body of Christ, even if you are the smallest little toe in the body, Satan is underneath you.

Even before Jesus went to the Cross, He said, “Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.” Luke 10:19

After His resurrection, “Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

Today, we enforce the victory that Jesus died to give us.

May I recommend you don’t do it silently either! Do it boldly and confidently as Jesus did. Take your Christ-imparted authority over Satan and your divinely empowered weapons and stand your ground.

This week, spend some time each day meditating on the total victory that Jesus won through the cross and His resurrection. And when Satan tries to tell you that the situation causing you stress right now will never change, you can loudly and confidently declare that you are in Christ, giving you total victory.  Sure, he'll roar from time to time to make you think you've got to do more or try to figure it all out.  He'll try to get you to take on the stress of it again, but you can rest in the finished work of the cross.  Jesus' victory was total and complete, leaving nothing in your life unaffected.
