You Can Have Calm Faith

Jul 23, 2019

When you are in the midst of a trial that is causing you stress, what’s the best way to come through it and not get stuck in it?

It is with calm faith.

Oh, but that is so much easier said than done, isn’t it? I mean you are IN the trial, this is a REAL issue.  This is not you worrying about the future and what if this or that happens. Something has already happened. Now what?

Today I’ll share with you the 3 best ways to have calm faith IN the midst of the trial so that you will come OUT.

God tells you to expect to come through it, not get stuck in it.  Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”  Notice He says when you
pass through, not when you drown in the waters.

Psalm 23:4 is another witness to us of this expectation. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”  We walk
through the valley of the shadow of death.  We don’t live there.

So, with this in mind, how can we get out faster?  By having calm faith in the midst of a stressful situation.  Here are 3 ways to do that.

1) Rest - Psalm 46:10 “Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God.”  Another translation says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

The first thing to do when in the middle of a stressful situation is not to go to battle and start binding and loosing, beating Satan over the head with Scriptures, or declaring your freedom until your throat is hoarse.  It is to rest.

Remember that we are royalty.  We are to be reigning with King Jesus according to Romans 5:17.  Royalty sits on a throne. Royalty does everything from a position of rest.  This step of rest helps us see things from our royal position or God’s perspective, high above the problem.

If you are feeling rushed, anxious or pressured, you need to stop.  Turn inward for guidance.  This trial may not be faced in the same manner you fought the last one.  When Jesus healed people He used all manner of healing.  He even spit in a guy's eye!  In the rest, you'll get the guidance and the words you need for this situation.

2) Wait and be strengthened.  Psalm 27:14 “Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you!”

Whenever I hear big promises like this one in Scripture, I feel the need to remind myself and you that those words are not my thoughts or my opinions.  They are the inspired words of Scripture - God’s love letter to us on how to handle life.

In the waiting, we are strengthened.  Take on the battle before being strengthened and you will lose!

I use to tell my HR assistant that there are very few HR emergencies so no need to be stressed.  That is true of most things in life.  Take your time.  Wait for a sense of peace about a decision.  Gather the Scriptures that pertain to your situation.  Feed on them and get strengthened before you do any battle.

3) When strength has come,  you will declare God’s truth over the situation.  Philippians 4:13 “I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.”

This is how we fight our battles...with the Word of the Lord.  It's our Sword.  When you have sufficiently rested and waited, now it's time to acknowledge the strength that the Holy Spirit provides to you and know you are now well able to get through this with God.  This is where we rise up and move on.

Maybe you just got hit with an attack from the enemy with some kind of sickness.  Maybe you even had to have emergency surgery.  As you heal, go through these stages and you'll come through with calm faith.

How long does each phase take?  That will vary based on the person’s maturity level, the amount of God’s Word they have coming in and God’s timing.  But you will come through and you’ll do it with calm faith. And you don't have to wait until the end when you are out to start enjoying life.  You won’t be anxious and upset throughout the whole journey.  You'll be able to have peace in the midst of the trouble.

Rest.
Wait and be strengthened.
Affirm God’s power in you.
These are the 3 ways to have calm faith.

I’m on a mission to help Christians to know that stress is not something we have to put up with until Heaven.  It’s not God’s will for our lives. We are to be reigning in life and spreading the fame of God’s goodness all around the world.  And being stuck in the pit of despair won’t do that.
